The World of Fragrances: A Journey Through the Art of Perfumery

Perfume is more than just a pleasant scent—it's an art form that evokes emotions and evokes memories. In this article, we'll take you on a journey through the fascinating world of perfumery.

The fragrance pyramid: top, heart and base notes

A perfume unfolds in three phases, known as the fragrance pyramid:

  • Top note : The first impression, often fresh and light, fades after about 10 minutes. Typical notes are citrus fruits such as bergamot and lemon.

  • Heart note : The heart of the perfume, which defines its character. Floral and fruity notes such as jasmine and peach dominate here.

  • Base note : The long-lasting foundation that adds depth to the fragrance. It contains heavy notes like musk, patchouli, and sandalwood.

Natural vs. synthetic fragrances

Fragrances are extracted in various ways: DIE WELT

  • Steam distillation : A process in which essential oils are extracted from plants using steam.

  • Cold pressing : Mainly used for citrus fruits, where the peels are pressed to extract the oils.

  • Solvent extraction : A gentle process, especially for delicate flowers such as jasmine, to obtain so-called absolutes.

Synthetic fragrances offer a cost-effective alternative and enable the creation of unique scents that do not occur naturally.

The art of fragrance composition

Creating a perfume requires a keen sense of harmony and balance. Perfumers combine different fragrance notes to create a unique olfactory experience.

Maturation and completion

After composition, the perfume must mature, a process that can take several weeks. During this time, the individual components blend into a harmonious whole.

At Fratelli Diamanti, we place great importance on quality and craftsmanship. Our fragrances are the result of a careful selection and combination of high-quality ingredients.
